Good Aikido Books, Audio and Video Library
Aikido books, audio and videos on Aikido, Philosophy and the art of Strategy are shared in this space. I believe that Aikido is not just a physical martial art, it is also a philosophic and spiritual journey.
Aikido is a software that can change your body and form the ‘hardware’.
It is your ‘inner game’ that will drive you to train more and want more. It is your philosophy that will help you become a Good Aikidoka rather than just an average follower. It is your spirit, your Mushin, your Fudoshin and your Zanshin that will get you out of trouble when you body freezes from fear and shock.
Your ‘inner game’ will earn you your black belt. When your body is tired and your mind is thinking of the excuses to give up, all you’ve got is your spirit. Have a strong ‘inner game’ by reading books and studying the best of the best. Make their Aikido your Aikido. Instil their stories into your spirit.
When you are in doubt go back to your Aikido reading, do your best on the mat and be certain that the Aikido you are practicing is good. This is your ‘inner game’, your spirit, your mental Ki. Make it strong.
Aikido works well if you study many good masters. When I say many masters, I meant many masters from different Aikido styles, martial arts and disciplines.
Many Good Aikido masters have written Good Aikido books. Read as much Aikido books as you can. Refer to the books when you have questions about your Aikido. You need to open your mind and learn as much as you can.
You can almost tell a person by their music, video and book library. You can tell the depth of their mind and soul by how much books they’ve read and studied.
One of the things I am proud of is my Aikido book collection. My Aikido library. I want my library to be passed to my kids and grandkids, so the knowledge I possessed will also be theirs.
Be a good student of Budo
Aikido is a budo. I started martial art journey with karate after watching the movie ‘Karate Kid’. Then I discovered Aikido after I lost a schoolyard fight from an Aikidoka.
Since then I’ve trained in Judo, Kendo, Kenjutsu, Taichi Chen style, Xing Yi, Jujutsu and Boxing for months and years at a time. Yet I always go back to my beloved budo Aikido.
Be a good student and don’t be a blind follower.
A good student has many books on the subject he is studying. Be responsible and strict on your Aikido so you can advance properly and not stall in dogma.
Don’t hide behind your Sensei or Shihan, they can’t protect you and fight your fights. Only you can fight your fights. Only you can make your Aikido good.
The Aikido Library
I want to build a space where we can refer to when we have questions about Aikido. A space dedicated to the students of Aikido. I wanted to spread the books that I read, the videos that I’ve watched and the Audio that I listened to.
There are many Aikido Scholars already devoted to Aikido history and Aikido Styles. Read the Aikido Scholars’ books and journals. We can thank them for shaping Aikido.
Don’t be just an Aikido scholar or critic talking from the sidelines. Don’t to hide behind your Aikido style and Aikido Master. Be there in the trenches and on the mat with all the Aikido students around the world. Immerse yourself with Aikido and you will be good.
Let me share with you the list of Aikido books, Aikido videos and Audio. I hope they help your Aikido to become good.
